Dredging Impact Assessment and Monitoring Services

C&D EIS and Mixing Zone Evaluation

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Philadelphia District has proposed a project that would deepen shipping channels in the Chesapeake and Delaware (C&D) Canal and approach channels in Delaware and Maryland. The project would include dredging sediments within these channels and their transfer to upland CDFs or overboard disposal at an undetermined location in the upper Chesapeake Bay. Sediment dredging and disposal have potential to expose aquatic environments to potential risks from contaminants found in sediments, and placement of dredge material in CDFs extends potential exposures to terrestrial environments, as well.
