Environmental Aspects

  • Cooling Water Source -- utilization of treated effluent from Mattawoman Waste Water Treatment plant in Charles County. Supplied by 17 mile pipeline. Five unit mechanical draft cooling towers. All effluent returned to Mattawoman WWTP.
  • Air Emissions -- Low dry NOx combustor design for gas firing, water injection for backup oil. NOx concentrations of 9 and 54 ppmvd for gas and oil backup respectively.
  • Backup fuel use -- fuel oil usage limited to 1200 hr/yr.
